King Helmet has a thick outer lip, often toothed. Males can differ in appearance from female shells. Helmets are found in tropical water along sandy seafloors. They are predators feeding mainly on sea urchins. Early mariners used these shells to help hallow canoes. In Florida, it is most often found on the eastern coastline from mid-state and throughout the Florida Keys, but it may also be found from the North Carolina coast to the West Indies.
In Florida, the King Helmet can be found mostly in the Keys, and it is more brown colored and usually smaller than the Queen Helmet. They like to eat sea urchins and sand dollars
