Sanibel True Tulip is a sea snail from Sanibel. The tulip snail is a slow predatory carnivore that preys on other gastropods in subtropical and tropical Florida. These species are in the genus Fasciolaria Tulipa. They are Marine gastropod mollusks in the family Fasciolariida. The shell color of the banded tulip is distinguishing in that it is usually grayish and overlaid with distinct, unbroken black spiral lines. The sanibel true tulip can be up to 8 inches in length.
The word “tulip” describes the overall shape of the shells of these species, which is like that of a closed tulip flower.
